Reality: The deal is not the Japan govt "giving" $550B to the US but rather a commitment to facilitate up to $550B in loans, equity investments, & guarantees for Japanese businesses (SoftBank, Nippon Steel, etc) investing in US sectors critical to national security. While President Trump has discretion to direct these investments, the funds are not a direct transfer or gift, & the actual amount invested depends on private-sector decisions.
