Markel Group Inc.

Markel's primary business is property and casualty insurance. The company focuses primarily on specialty lines, ranging from areas such as executive liability to commercial equine insurance. The acquisition of Alterra in 2013 added substantial reinsurance operations, which now account for a little over 10% of premiums. The company uses capital generated by its insurance operations to buy noninsurance operations in diverse areas, such as bakery equipment manufacturing and residential homebuilding.

$MKL chatter on StockTwits

$MKL This stopped being funny a while ago, Markel! What’s going on? Is everyone pulling out money from”boring” stocks to fuel the AI bubble or a ridiculous rocket IPO? Or to fund their losses on leveraged bitcoin investments going south? This is a long term hold, but -18% year to date kind of stings.

$MKL normally a company has to wait 2 days before buying back stock. Does anyone know if they are hosting their annual breakfast in Omaha around the BRK meeting. I've attended in the past and they are informative. this would be a lively discussion in the Q&A. (I normally get an invite and did not get one this year)

$MKL Per the 10Q, they accelerated buybacks greatly during Feb and Mar Q1. Would not surprise me if they buy back at a $35MM a month or greater clip at these price levels. Still roughly $1.4B remaining on current buyback authorization.

$MKL a PE of 12 at normalized, no equity gains or losses included earnings. I hope they put cash to work today on buying back shares.

$MKL way oversold...mark to market makes this stock swing on volatility more than it should. I can almost guarantee they start accelerating the stock buyback program

$MKL As I read the report, it’s all a paper loss on its investments, not an actual operational loss. The operational revenue and earnings actually improved q over q. Most, if not all, of this paper loss will have been regained by now since the market rebound since feb/march.
